KCI provided project management and design services to replace the existing two-lane structure carrying US 21 over the Catawba River with a 1,000-foot-long, four-lane steel beam bridge. During construction, contractor Lane Construction worked with KCI in designing a lifting frame system to launch 60-ton girders laterally from the existing bridge, avoiding impacts to the river and uncertainty associated with mobilizing barge mounted cranes over the shallow river bottom.
KCI welcomes Mechanical Practice Leader Christopher W. Qualls, PE, CEM, to our Houston office. His responsibilities include facilitating client relationships, quality control and geographic expansion as well as mentoring young engineers, and managing design standards and tools.
